Overview
This is the eighth lecture in a 10-part professional development series for English as a Foreign Language educators in Thailand. University of Oregon is partnering with the US Embassy in Bangkok, the Royal Thai Distance Learning Foundation, colleagues at Chulalongkorn University, and at ThaiTESOL on this innovative and exciting project.
About the Speakers
Dr. Pashby is on faculty at the University of Oregon American English Institute and Linguistics department. She taught English at Srinakharinwirot University (Bangkhen) in the early 1990s.
Leslie Opp-Beckman is on faculty at the University of Oregon in the Linguistics Department and the American English Institute. She develops e-learning curriculum and and teaches courses on Computer-Assisted Language Learning.

- What is your definition of culture? Do you think culture plays an important role in the classroom? Why or why not?
- What is the most common"target culture" in English classes at your school? U.S., British, Canadian, Australian, other? Explain your answer.
- What are some examples of activities that you used to teach culture in your classes. Which ones have been most effective?
